The Green Travel

April 23, 2010 Leave a comment

You don’t need to go into the farthest part of the forest or wildest part of the jungle for you to be called a green traveler. You don’t need to give up nature’s comforts either. All you need to do is have the passion and desire to conserve and preserve the environment. For some, preserving the environment would be difficult. It’s not enough for them to just visit the place. They need to take away something from that place and bring it home as a recollection that they went there. In doing so, you took such thing away from its natural habitat.

Earth day was recently celebrated and the celebration also served as a reminder for us to make each day an Earth day. We seek nature’s beauty. But please bear in mind that we need to preserve such beauty for the enjoyment of everybody, not just ours. This is the whole idea of the green travel – being a responsible tourist and traveler.

Bangkok in state of emergency

Bangkok, Thailand – Division between the urban poor who protest for the resignation of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajjva and an election subsequently, and the middle class to elite who strongly support the current administration has caused the incumbent Prime Minister to declare state of emergency.

Protests performed by both parties have caused an “(obvious) concern felt in some source markets about safety and security issues” said PATA Chief Executive Greg Duffell when interviewed on how this affects their travel and tourism affairs. Governments have resorted to posting advisories for potential visitors to delay their travel plans.

Amidst the demonstrations, Duffell assures tourists that if they have already planned business or leisure trips to Bangkok, there’s no urgency to cancel. He stated that although protests are on-going, this issue has not greatly affected daily living in the city.

China

In the short-term, China’s outlook is quite good.

The lagged effects of aggressive policy in 2009 will render strong growth in 2010. However, China’s success in offsetting the negative impact of the global economic crisis now sets the stage for possible troubles down the road, including risk of inflation, asset price bubbles, excess industrial capacity, and troublesome relations with trading partners.

Japan

Following a deep recession in 2009, Japan is now experiencing very slow economic growth combined with deflation.

The government’s reaction to the crisis, a combination of monetary and fiscal stimulus, was successful in restoring growth, yet progress remains quite slow compared to other developed economies.

Australia

While the overall outlook for Australia is for moderate growth, there are some risks to the forecast, such as the country’s high                                              dependency on global commodity markets and its increasing dependency on China’s economic health.

India

India is recovering nicely from a very modest slowdown.

This reflects strengthening demand for Indian’s exports as the global economy recovers. In addition, domestic demand is strengthening as business investment accelerates in line with a high level of confidence. Consumer spending is accelerating as well. The result is that the economy is recovering faster than expected.
